Efficiency

Technology is for increasing the productivity of---not replacing---your workforce. Most businesses emphasize efficiency, as business is driven by competition.

• Pro: Gives a competitive edge over your competitors.
• Con: Over-emphasis on efficiency can make your company “brittle”.
• Remedy: Improve resilience.

Resilience

The ability to bounce back or take quick advantage of changes in the business environment. Business continuity and recovery planning is a business strategy approach that focuses on resilience. Strategic planning is also concerned with being able to respond quickly to changes in the surrounding environment: economic, political and natural.

• Pro: Gives confidence that the business can survive changes in the business environment.
• Con: Too much emphasis on resiliency can be costly in duplicated processes ($ and time), leading to inefficiency.
• Remedy: Improve efficiency

Greenness

There are three aspects of being Green:

1) reducing waste production,
2) reducing the amount of energy used, and
3) promoting good stewardship of the natural environment.

If a company is disposing of large amounts of trash, it is a good indication efficiency can be improved. Likewise, energy use can be reduced through technology and improved efficiency.

Greenness is an indicator of a company's committment to promoting good stewardship of the environment and being good community citizens. The goodwill earned by the company is greatly enhanced.
